Information Technology/Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)

Information Technology for high school is designed for students who wish to pursue careers in computer technology, engineering, and GIS–Geospatial information systems. The course work in this secondary program includes AP Computer Science Principles, Intro to GIS Technology, Essentials GIS Tools and Processes, GIS Analysis and Modeling, Advanced GIS Applications, leading to industry certifications. Students investigate and research through a variety of social and service learning projects using GIS mapping tools provided by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). Students learn to capture, manage and analyze geographic information that will be related to human services, global concerns, governmental concerns, and transportation. Village Academy integrates technology, social and project–based learning opportunities to collaboratively problem solve in an internship setting. There are no eligibility criteria required for students applying to this program.
